In an effort to better serve the families of students who receive special education services, in December 2010 the Louisiana Department of Education launched a Special Education Hotline. The toll-free hotline provides callers with information on special education services and available resources, and also offers them an opportunity to provide feedback on the quality of services being offered.
Each month, the Department publishes a Special Education Hotline Report that reflects information received by phone, mail, email and fax. The report includes information on the total number of inquiries, as well as an analysis of the types of questions/comments received. The Department maintains a tracking system to ensure that callers receive timely responses to their inquiries.
These reports are not all-inclusive and should not be used to draw conclusions about any Local Education Agency's (LEA) compliance with regulations set forth in IDEA. For more detailed information, please see the Federal Special Education Performance reports.
The Special Education Hotline is accessible through the Department's main toll-free number, 1-877-453-2721.
