TRADE and INDUSTRIAL EDUCATION OVERVIEW

Trade and Industrial Programs lead to careers in the fields of manufacturing, construction, transportation, and communication technology. The Secondary Trade and Industrial Education Program in the state of Louisiana can be described as "a secondary program designed to prepare students for careers in business, industry, and the service occupations through a sequence of applied learning experiences." Instructional units are provided in layout, design, production, processing, assembling, testing, and maintenance of industrial goods and products as well as public services. The goal of the Secondary Trade and Industrial Program is to develop basic manipulative and technological skills through a combination of laboratory and on-the-job training experiences for direct job placement and/or continuing education. Students may enter and progress through one of several program sequences in order to achieve their major occupational objective. Students are encouraged to select courses from other career and technical course offerings to complement their Trade and Industrial Education courses based upon each student's occupational objective.
