Press Release (7.2.2008) - Recently, House Bill 1347, the Student Scholarships for Educational Excellence Program was signed into law by Governor Bobby Jindal. Louisiana has made a commitment that the needs of our children always come first. This law is designed to provide families with greater educational choices and an increased opportunity for success.

Press Release (6.27.2008) - Just before the end of the legislative session, with little notice or debate, Senate Bill 440 was amended to include a provision that would seek to provide a waiver for students with special needs who take the state’s LEAP exam each year.

Press Release (6.25.2008) - The Center for Education Policy issued a report today; “Has Student Achievement Increased Since 2002?” This report describes findings from the second year of “the most comprehensive, intensive, and carefully constructed study to date of trends in student achievement in all 50 states since 2002, the year the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) was enacted.”

Press Release (6.14.2008) - Citing recommendations from the National Association of Charter School Authorizers (NACSA) and the Department of Education, today the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education voted to accept the applications of 100 Black Men Capitol Charter Initiative and Advance Baton Rouge to operate Type 5 Charter Schools beginning this fall.
