Office of School and Community Support
| Mission Statement |
| The mission of the Office of School and Community Support
is to provide those ancillary educational services that can be of benefit
to the state's population, but often are not perceived as directly related
to traditional K-12 education. These services include the following: |
- Community based tutorial programs offer after-school and summer tutorial
assistance to Louisiana’s school aged children.
- Migrant Education programs address the special educational needs of
migratory children.
- Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act (Title IV) provides
drug and violence prevention programs that are essential components
of a comprehensive strategy to promote school safety, to reduce the
demand for and use of drugs, and to create learning environments that
support academic achievement for all students.
- School Transportation is a state mandated effort to provide safe,
efficient transportation for riders of the state’s 7,800 school busses.
- Louisiana Youth Educational - Recreational
Center is a resident facility
for students and teachers enrolled in special leadership training programs.
(Application)
- Nutrition Assistance Programs are designed to provide nutritious,
wholesome, balanced meals and snacks for eligible children and adults
which is fundamental to enabling an optimal environment in which learning
and development can occur.
