Health Science programs combine classroom and clinical experiences that lead to careers in nursing and other health-related fields. Health Science in Louisiana is composed of subject matter and clinical learning experiences designed to prepare students with competencies required to assist qualified health professionals in providing diagnostic, therapeutic, preventive, and rehabilitative services to patients in health care facilities and in the community.
Like many states, Louisiana is facing a critical shortage of health care professionals, particularly in rural areas. CTE is working to meet the demands of this critical health shortage by offering industry-based certifications (IBC) in Dental Assistant, EMT-Basic, First Responder, Nursing Assistant, and Pharmacy Technician. Also, secondary students can pursue careers in EKG Technician, Phlebotomy and Sports Medicine. Although these health science courses are rigorous, students are well prepared to enter the health care workforce.
