To prepare Louisiana's students for the LEAP test by ensuring mastery of the Content Standards, the Louisiana Department of Education has developed Model Lessons for Science and Social Studies. Each lesson was developed to be used by novice and experienced teachers alike.
Although Model Lessons specifically target 4th- and 8th-grade students, the lessons are appropriate for use in other grade levels. While some lessons may be brief "stand alone" lessons, others may resemble unit plans over a range of Benchmarks and may require more than one class session to complete. Activities, questions, and evaluation instruments are included in the plans; however, teachers are encouraged to individualize the lessons to best suit their teaching styles and the learning styles of their students.
