Celebrate Freedom Week is part of Louisiana’s commitment to strong civics education in K-12 schools
Louisiana schools will recognize Celebrate Freedom Week September 14-18, 2026. Held each September in conjunction with Constitution Day and Constitution Week, the observance gives students opportunities to learn about government, citizenship, and our nation’s founding principles.
Throughout the week, students explore the people, events, ideas, and primary documents that shaped the United States. Instruction may include the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and other primary sources. These lessons help students better understand both the rights they enjoy as Americans and the responsibilities they carry as engaged citizens.

Freedom Framework
Louisiana became one of the first states to adopt a new set of social studies standards that tell the story of American exceptionalism as well as the nation’s continuous journey toward becoming a more perfect union. Since adopting the Freedom Framework, Louisiana has advised other states in developing their own rigorous, civics-focused standards.
Freedom Framework Diploma Endorsement
The 2025–2026 school year marked the first time students were eligible to earn the Freedom Framework Diploma Endorsement, which recognizes excellence in civics education. Students who score Mastery or above on the LEAP 2025 civics assessment earn a special diploma seal and a red, white, and blue honor cord for graduation.
America 250 Diploma Seal (Class of 2026)
Louisiana recognized the nation’s 250th anniversary by placing a commemorative America 250 seal on diplomas awarded to the Class of 2026. The seal honors the nation’s founding and reinforces the importance of preparing the next generation to be informed citizens.
