Community Service Endorsement Requirements
Authorized by Louisiana Revised Statute 17:264, Bulletin 741, Louisiana Handbook for School Administrators, stipulates that beginning with freshmen entering high school in the 2013-2014 school year and beyond, local education agencies (LEAs) may award a Community Service Diploma Endorsement to students completing a total of 80 hours of community service in ninth through twelfth grade. Students transferring into a participating LEA after ninth grade or students graduating early may receive an endorsement provided a total of 80 community service hours are completed prior to graduation.
Per House Bill 315:264, Act 346 the following must not contribute to the student’s Community Service:
- Community service hours shall not count toward academic course work or graded work in any public school.
- The community service performed shall not be related to political activities of any kind.
