9.29.25 UPDATE: U.S. Department of Education increases Louisiana’s original allocation as part of $500 million released to states through the Charter Schools Program grant
The Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) is being awarded $13.5 million to support high-quality education options for students. The U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced the release of $500 million to the Charter Schools Program (CSP), marking the largest investment in the program ever. That announcement came with the news that Louisiana will receive an additional $13.5 million this year as part of the CSP grant. These funds are in addition to the original $55 million awarded to the state through this grant.
Request for Applications - CSP Supplemental Funding for Charter Schools
CSP Supplemental Funding is available to all charter schools serving students in grades K-12 in the 2025-2026 school year. It is NOT limited to new, expanding, or replicating charter schools. The CSP Supplemental funding application will open in eGMS on December 1, 2025, and close on December 19, 2025. An application tool is available for charters that do not serve as their own LEA. Charter school leaders are encouraged to attend upcoming informational sessions, which can be scheduled here.
In September 2023, the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) was awarded a $55.5 million federal Charter Schools Program (CSP) grant to support Louisiana’s charter school movement. Through the Louisiana Public Charter Schools Program (LPCSP), the LDOE will catalyze charter growth in other high-need communities to meet insistent parental demand for these schools. Over the five-year project period, LDOE will support the addition of over 5,000 seats at 25 new, expanding, or replicating charter schools that meet grant objectives and priorities.
