9.29.25 UPDATE: U.S. Department of Education increases Louisiana’s original allocation as part of $500 million released to states through the Charter Schools Program grant
The Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) is being awarded $13.5 million to support high-quality education options for students. The U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced the release of $500 million to the Charter Schools Program (CSP), marking the largest investment in the program ever. That announcement came with the news that Louisiana will receive an additional $13.5 million this year as part of the CSP grant. These funds are in addition to the original $55 million awarded to the state through this grant.
In September 2023, the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) was awarded a $55.5 million federal Charter Schools Program (CSP) grant to support Louisiana’s charter school movement. Through the Louisiana Public Charter Schools Program (LPCSP), the LDOE will catalyze charter growth in other high-need communities to meet insistent parental demand for these schools. Over the five-year project period, LDOE will support the addition of over 5,000 seats at 25 new, expanding, or replicating charter schools that meet grant objectives and priorities.
