The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was signed by President Obama on December 10, 2015. This bipartisan measure re-authorizes the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), the nation's national education law.

ESSA builds on key areas of progress in recent years, made possible by the efforts of educators, communities, parents and students across the country.

FY24 ESEA Tydings Waiver

Louisiana is requesting these waivers because it is not possible to obligate funds on a timely basis as originally planned, due to the state's continued commitment to address student instructional interruptions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instructional loss presented unique student learning challenges, thereby increasing the need to provide evidence-based instructional strategies to support learning loss and to provide educators with targeted professional development. This waiver will provide continued support to the statewide instructional focus areas that include literacy, STEM, and college and career readiness activities. The state has already witnessed continued positive gains regarding student learning loss recovery efforts.

LDOE is requesting the waiver, pursuant to section 8401 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA). View the waiver request linked here: ESEA LA FY24 ESEA Tydings Waiver Request.

Federal program directors, business managers, financial officials, and relevant personnel of public school systems should review this waiver request and submit all questions or comments by Thursday, July 23, 2026.

Please contact [email protected] with questions and comments submissions.
