LOUISIANA SCHOOLS RECOGNIZE CELEBRATE FREEDOM WEEK 2025 SEPTEMBER 15-19

September 11, 2025

Louisiana schools will recognize Celebrate Freedom Week September 15-19, 2025. Held annually in September to coincide with Constitution Day and Constitution Week, Celebrate Freedom Week is a statewide observance that promotes civic understanding and constitutional literacy among Louisiana students.

Throughout the week, schools provide lessons on the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and other foundational documents. These activities help students not only understand the rights they enjoy as Americans, but also the responsibilities they carry as engaged citizens.

To support instruction during Celebrate Freedom Week, the Louisiana Department of Education has made guidance and instructional resources available online.

To honor America’s 250th anniversary and Celebrate Freedom Week, the Louisiana Department of Education, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Institute, and the City of Covington launched a statewide student oratory competition. Students from across Louisiana will compete in the state finals September 16, with two winners earning a trip to nationals at the Reagan Presidential Library in California. The state finals will take place in Covington - home to the world's largest Reagan statue.

Celebrate Freedom Week is the result of Act No. 370 of the 2022 Regular Session:

Each September, in conjunction with Constitution Day and Constitution Week, each public school shall observe Celebrate Freedom Week. As part of this observance, the public school governing authority shall ensure that all students receive age and grade-appropriate instruction, in a social studies or other appropriate course, on topics related to freedom. Such topics may include but are not limited to instruction related to the nation's founding and the intent, meaning, and importance of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, including the Bill of Rights.
