East Feliciana was “All-in” this Summer
BATON ROUGE, La. – State Superintendent of Education Dr. Cade Brumley today named East Feliciana Public Schools’ summer learning program, EF Accelerate, as one of Louisiana’s Models of Excellence, a statewide award that recognizes benchmark programs that exemplify the Louisiana Department of Education’s Believe to Achieve priorities.
“EF Accelerate immersed students into the highest quality teaching and learning environments that targeted their specific academic and enrichment needs over the summer months,” said State Superintendent of Education Dr. Cade Brumley. “I am so proud of the East Feliciana Public Schools’ commitment to providing its students an engaging academic experience that will allow them to start this school year on a strong note.”
One fourth of East Feliciana’s pre-K-12 students were enrolled in the summer learning program. Following the summer learning program, 88% of their parents were very satisfied with the academic support their children received. For the teachers, 75% were very satisfied with compensation and 78% were very satisfied with site director support.
“It’s extraordinarily humbling to be honored for our team's efforts this summer,” said East Feliciana Public Schools Superintendent Keisha Netterville. “EF Accelerate was the first major initiative within our new strategic plan, so this recognition is the encouragement we needed to know we’re heading in the right direction. It’s also given us a chance to reflect on what we accomplished during our summer program, and we’re proud of the intentionality and collaboration that informed every aspect of the program.”
In designing their summer learning program, East Feliciana was committed to addressing unfinished learning as well as connecting with students, families, and the community. The school system partnered with 21st Century Schools and worked to ensure the program was addressing the needs of all pre-K-12 students through small class sizes, high-quality curriculum, enrichment activities, and field trips. Community stakeholders were invited to speak with students on a variety of topics, including financial literacy and careers, while RKM Primary Clinic of Clinton provided school nurses for each site for free.
Louisiana Models of Excellence was created to acknowledge, honor and spotlight schools serving as exemplary models for implementing the Department’s Believe to Achieve educational priorities that lead to the advancement of student success. This initiative has three main goals: celebrate excellence in Louisiana schools, share stories of success and provide models for others to see, and create high-impact partnerships across school systems.
