Providing All Louisiana Students with Opportunities to Learn

ABOUT

About the Louisiana Department of Education

The Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) provides guidance and support to all publicly funded early childhood centers and elementary and secondary schools in Louisiana. Specifically, the department provides tools and resources to schools and school systems to support classroom instruction, assessments, workforce development and college and career preparation. Additionally, the department provides families and the public with transparent reporting of center, school, and school system performance and quality through the Louisiana School Finder.

Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE)

The LDOE is the administrative arm of the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE). BESE was established by the 1974 Louisiana Constitution. The Board is composed of 11 members: eight elected by the citizens of Louisiana’s eight BESE districts, and three appointed by the governor of Louisiana to represent the state at-large. Together, these members adopt and enact policies governing the elementary and secondary schools of Louisiana.

The Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) is proud to launch its new online home. Visitors will notice a new look, new audience pages dedicated to some of our most frequent visitors, and new ways to find what you are looking for.

This project has been over a year in the making and was part of an overall digital transformation along with new branding debuted by the LDOE last year. Our previous website was originally designed over 10 years ago and had become cumbersome, outdated, and difficult to navigate. Our new website includes a vibrant new design, with many high-resolution pictures featuring Louisiana students and educators. Aside from the new look, we also created more front door space for visitors to quickly find some of our most visited pages, links, and resources.

Our old website housed over 14,000 documents and links, with around 400 pages. To make more of that content easier to find, we expanded our home page and created audience pages for the main groups of visitors to our site - think of these audience pages as separate home pages dedicated to that group. Throughout the site, you will also see new tools that allow us to present a large number of links, documents, or other resources in a more user-friendly way.
