What Is Act 409?
Act 409 (2025 Regular Session), also known as Charlie’s Law, introduces new safety standards and licensing requirements for prekindergarten programs in Louisiana. The law applies to all schools that serve children under age five, including nonpublic schools.
As the agency charged with implementation, the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) is committed to helping school leaders understand the law, meet deadlines, and stay informed.
