Computer Science

Louisiana Act 541 (2022), the Computer Science Education Act, establishes the Computer Science Education Advisory Commission (CSEAC) to provide recommendations to the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education through the Department of Education for the development and implementation of a state action plan for the delivery of education in computer science in all public schools. These meeting materials are now archived on the advisory council webpage.

On October 11, 2023, the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) received CSEAC’s report and directed the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) to begin the process of creating a state plan for computer science education.

Louisiana’s vision for K-12 Computer Science Education is to increase digital literacy skills through engagement with a progression of computer science concepts and experiences which prepare all students for success in society and future career opportunities.

Computer Science Education Week December 9-15 

Computer Science Education Week (CS EdWeek) is a nationwide initiative to promote computer science education. CS EdWeek 2024 will take place from December 9-15, with the theme of the Impacts of Computing. Teachers are invited to participate in CS EdWeek and incorporate computer science education experiences in their classrooms using lessons and activities for grades K-12.

Computer Science K-12 Standards Writing Committee

The K-12 Computer Science Standards Writing Committee has successfully completed the development of Louisiana’s new computer science standards. Public comment on the draft K-12 Louisiana Student Standards for Computer Science is now open and will close Friday, September 27, at 4 p.m. Public comment will be shared with the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) on October 9, 2024.
