About LA GATOR
The Louisiana Giving All True Opportunity to Rise (LA GATOR) Scholarship Program, created by Act 1 of the 2024 Louisiana Legislature and signed into law by Governor Jeff Landry, provides eligible families with education scholarship accounts (ESAs). These accounts allow families to personalize their child’s education using state-funded accounts for school tuition and fees, tutoring, educational therapies, textbooks and curricula, dual enrollment courses, and uniforms.
Latest Update on LA GATOR
June 27, 2025 – Scholarship Notifications Begin for LSP Students
Odyssey has begun notifying eligible Louisiana Scholarship Program (LSP) students that they will receive a LA GATOR Scholarship for the 2025–2026 school year. These notifications follow the state’s approval of program funding and the renewal of the management contract with Odyssey.
Program Funding Approved
Governor Jeff Landry requested nearly $100 million to fund the first year of the LA GATOR Scholarship Program. The Legislature approved $43.5 million, which is expected to support scholarships for approximately 6,000 eligible students.
- Roughly 5,200 scholarships will go to students who participated in the Louisiana Scholarship Program (LSP) during the 2024–2025 school year. These families have now received notification. We will follow up as soon as possible with additional details about the upcoming launch of the LA GATOR marketplace and next steps.
- An estimated 800 additional scholarships will go to other high-priority Phase 1 applicants who are not currently in the LSP, such as students from low-income families and students with disabilities. These awards will be prioritized based on when applications were submitted.
Contract Approved to Begin Award Distribution
The Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget (JLCB) approved the renewal of the state’s management contract with Odyssey on June 20, 2025, providing for continued operation and management of the LA GATOR Scholarship Program.
What Families Should Know
- Eligible Louisiana Scholarship Program applicants have received notifications through the Odyssey platform.
- Other eligible families should continue checking their Odyssey account and lagator.la.gov for updates as additional scholarships are awarded based on prioritization criteria and available funds.
- Eligibility does not guarantee funding or school placement. There are a limited number of scholarships, and the vast majority are being awarded to students from the Louisiana Scholarship Program.
- Families must work directly with participating schools to complete enrollment.
- Registration or reservation fees may be required by schools. These cannot be paid or reimbursed with LA GATOR funds and must be handled by families if they choose to move forward prior to knowing their funding status.
- Have a backup plan in place for the 2025–2026 school year, especially if you are not a Louisiana Scholarship Program family. Not all eligible students will receive funding.
Next Steps
- Monitor your Odyssey account for updates.
- Visit lagator.la.gov for ongoing news and resources.
- Review the prioritization criteria to understand how award decisions are being made.
Who’s Eligible for LA GATOR?
To be eligible for the LA GATOR Scholarship Program, a student must:
- Live in Louisiana
- Be at least 5 years old (but not older than 21) by September 30, 2025
- Meet one of the following:
- Participated in the Louisiana Scholarship Program (LSP) during the 2024–2025 school year
- Is entering kindergarten
- Was enrolled in a public school on both October 1 and February 1 of the 2024–2025 school year
- Comes from a household with income at or below 250% of the federal poverty level
Eligibility must be reverified each year to continue in the program.
Student eligibility will end if any of the following occurs:
- The student enrolls full-time in a public school
- The student is no longer a Louisiana resident
- Fraudulent information is provided during the application or use of funds
- The student graduates or withdraws from school
- The LA GATOR account remains inactive for two consecutive years
How Are Students Prioritized for Funding?
The LA GATOR Scholarship Program is funded annually by the Louisiana Legislature. If there is not enough funding to cover every eligible student, awards are prioritized in this order:
- Students currently in the Louisiana Scholarship Program or LA GATOR
- Students with a disability under IDEA or from families earning ≤250% of the federal poverty level
- Siblings of current LA GATOR or LSP students
- All other eligible students
If multiple students fall in the same priority group, applications are ordered by submission timestamp. Students who applied earlier within the window are prioritized over later applicants.
How Much Can Students Receive?
The amount a student can receive depends on family income and disability status. Awards are calculated using a percentage of Louisiana’s average state and local per-pupil funding.
Here’s what students may receive for the 2025–2026 school year:
- Up to $15,253 for students with a qualifying disability (tiered by disability type)
- $7,626 for students from families earning ≤250% of the federal poverty level
- $5,243 for other eligible students
Louisiana Scholarship Program students who remain at their current school will continue receiving the same amount they were awarded in 2024–2025, until they complete that school’s final grade or leave the school.
All awards are contingent on final funding decisions made by the Legislature and Governor.

Transition from the Louisiana Scholarship Program to LA GATOR
The Louisiana Scholarship Program (LSP) will continue through the end of the 2024–2025 school year and officially end on June 30, 2025. Beginning with the 2025–2026 school year, eligible LSP families and schools will transition into the LA GATOR Scholarship Program.
LSP Students Receive Top Priority
Students who participated in LSP during the 2024–2025 school year are part of Phase 1 of LA GATOR and are designated as Priority 1 for funding.
- These students will be the first group considered for awards once legislative funding is finalized.
- Families who applied to LA GATOR will be notified of award status through the Odyssey platform once the state budget is complete (expected June 2025).
If a student remains at the same school, they will continue to receive the same award amount they received through LSP until they finish the school’s final grade or leave the school.
Louisiana Scholarship Program Schools
Any nonpublic school that participated in LSP during the 2024–2025 school year (and remains in good standing) is automatically eligible to participate in LA GATOR for 2025–2026. These schools:
- Do not need to submit a new approval application
- Must register on the Odyssey platform and complete annual attestations for LA GATOR
Beginning in 2026–2027, all participating schools must follow the standard LA GATOR application process and requirements each year.
What Happens Next?
The student application window closes on April 15, 2025. Here’s what happens next:
- Spring 2025: Applications reviewed for eligibility and prioritization.
- April–June: The Louisiana Legislature will decide how much funding the program receives for 2025–2026.
- June/July 2025 (estimated): Award notifications will be sent through the Odyssey platform.
- Summer 2025: Families who receive awards will set up their student’s account and can begin selecting schools and services.

(BATON ROUGE, LA) - The Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) announced the launch of its new online home at doe.louisiana.gov. The LDOE’s new website features a new look, new audience pages dedicated to some of the site’s most frequent visitors, and new ways for users to find the resources they need. Redesigned with the user in mind, the site offers a more seamless and convenient experience for visitors.
“A website should be easy for people to navigate and I regularly heard complaints about how difficult it was to find information on our old site,” said Louisiana State Superintendent of Education Dr. Cade Brumley. “Our new site is a big step in the right direction and we look forward to making continued improvements in how we serve the citizens of Louisiana.”
New features and tools are designed to enhance the user experience, offering intuitive access to essential resources for families, educators, school leaders, early childhood providers, and the general public.
Key Enhancements
- New Website Address: The new domain, doe.louisiana.gov, ensures better alignment with Louisiana’s state government entities.
- Expanded Home Page: The homepage has been redesigned to serve as a central hub, showcasing priority content, the latest news, and direct links to popular resources.
- Audience Pages: Dedicated homepages tailored to the needs of key visitor groups—Families & Students, Educators, School & System Leaders, and Early Childhood Providers—offer streamlined access to relevant content.
- User-Friendly Tools: New navigation tools include a pop-out site map for comprehensive access, expandable document lists, and grouped quick links to consolidate related resources.
While the LDOE is no longer utilizing its previous website address, louisianabelieves.com, users who try to visit the old address will be directed to the new site at doe.louisiana.gov. The previous website had served as the LDOE's online home for around a decade, hosting over 14,000 links and 400 pages of content. With millions of visits annually, the LDOE website is a critical resource for families, educators, and leaders across Louisiana. The new site reflects input gathered from stakeholders and was designed to better meet their needs.
This launch marks a key milestone in the LDOE’s larger digital transformation, which includes updated agency branding and a commitment to modernizing how information is shared.
To help visitors navigate the new site, the LDOE has developed a preview as well as links to some of the most visited pages. Along with visiting the website, the public can also stay connected to the LDOE through various email newsletters or on Facebook, X, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
